The 1965 Vatican II declaration of support for religious freedom, the principle that no one should ever be forcibly compelled to accept any religious belief.

Article 1 of the document declares:

The truth cannot impose itself except by virtue of its own truth, as it makes its entrance into the mind at once quietly and with power.
